The North Sri Lanka Economic Resilience for Women and Local Communities (NERW) Project is providing crucial support to over 160 most vulnerable Women-Headed Households facing the daunting task of managing their homes with extremely limited monthly incomes. Among these women, some are elderly, disabled, or grappling with various health issues. Despite these challenges, they exhibit remarkable resilience, working tirelessly to provide for their families, which often include school-going children.

The NERW project serves as a lifeline for these women, empowering them to establish small-scale family businesses in agriculture or dairy farming. As we reach the midway point of the project, we witness these women making consistent progress. They have initiated savings and, significantly, have come together to form village-level self-help groups, thereby enhancing their collective bargaining power.

The project remains steadfast in its commitment to imparting valuable technical knowledge to these women. It actively collaborates with government extension officers to ensure the delivery of essential services, further contributing to the economic empowerment of these resilient women
